USA Sends More Venezuelans to El Salvador

Secretary of State Marco Rubio used the USA’s military to fly 17 Venezuelan immigrants to the CECOT prison in El Salvador.

Rubio said they were violent criminals connected with the Tren de Aragua or MS-13 gangs. Fox News published a list of 16 of the men renditioned, of whom 12 had criminal convictions, one admitted to being a gang member, and three faced charges.

Use of the Alien Enemies Act for deportations or renditioning is currently blocked by a court order, which has been upheld on appeal. The government has taken the matter to the Supreme Court where it has not yet been considered.

Rubio did not say what legal justification he relied upon for his actions. It is not clear whether he relied upon the Alien Enemies Act and violated the court order.
