USA Expels Ambassador from South Africa

Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Ebrahim Rasool, the ambassador from South Africa “no longer welcome” in the USA and expelled him.

Rubio cited an article at Breitbart in which Rasool was quoted as saying Trump’s Make America Great Again “was a white supremacist response to growing demographic diversity in the United States.”

Rasool previously served as ambassador to the USA from South Africa in 2010 to 2015. He is Muslim and a critic of Israel’s treatment of Gaza. He advocated for South Africa’s case in the International Court of Justice against Israel.

Trump is an ally of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump’s largest campaign donor is Elon Musk, who grew up in South Africa but got Canadian citizenship through his mother and left as he approached an age where he would have been required to do national service.

In February, Trump froze foreign aid to South Africa. He claims the country has a new law that targets white farmers for expropriation of private land. South Africa says the new law is not linked with race and is similar to expropriation laws in other nations.
