Univ. of Alabama Doctoral Student Taken From Home

Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian studying for a doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama, was arrested at his home and taken away by federal officers.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said “ICE HSI made this arrest in accordance with the State Department’s revocation of Doroudi’s student visa. This individual posed significant national security concerns.” The Secretary of State has broad powers to revoke visas and deport foreign nationals based on only a belief that their continued presence could pose concerns for national security or foreign policy.
