Two Economic Advisory Groups that Worked as Volunteers are Disbanded

| 0

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick disbanded two advisory groups in which top-tier economists provided their expertise to the government as volunteers.

The disbanded groups were the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee and the Bureau of Economic Analysis Advisory Committee. Members were only paid for travel and lodging expenses to attend meetings.

As with his disbanding of advisors for the Census Bureau, Lutnick’s notice to the committees said he was shutting them down because their purposes have been fulfilled.

Their purposes were ongoing missions. Economists are concerned that disbanding these advisory groups will lead to degradation in the quality of economic data.
