Social Security announced it will cut 7,000 from its workforce of 57,000.

The losses are expected to be achieved by a combination of resignations, retirements, takeup of Voluntary Separation Incentive Payments and a Reduction In Force.

Staffing at Social Security is already at a 50 year low for its workload. Former Social Security Administration Commissioner Martin O’Malley predicted that for the first time in the program’s history, “Ultimately, you’re going to see the system collapse and an interruption of benefits. I believe you will see that within the next 30 to 90 days.”
