Senate Bill to Ban Transgender Athletes from Sports for Females Fails to Advance

A Senate bill intended to ban transgender women and girls from school athletic contests for female athletes was unable to garner the 60 votes needed to advance.

The bill would have applied Title IX protections “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

Senate Democrats unified against the bill, which is among the culture war themes stirred up by Republicans during the election.
