SCOTUS Says $2 billion in USAID Contracts Already Fulfilled Must Be Paid For

The Supreme Court let stand a lower court’s ruling that USAID contracts for which delivery has occurred must be paid for, totaling about $2 billion.

The case was filed by AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition and the Global Health Council to challenge Donald Trump’s halt of foreign aid. Federal District Court Judge Amir Ali issued a temporary restraining order to unfreeze foreign aid funding while he heard the case.

The Trump regime ignored Ali’s order. Plaintiffs went back to court asking Ali for a contempt ruling. Ali did not issue a contempt ruling, but granted their request to enforce his order. When the regime continued to keep foreign aid frozen, Ali set a deadline by which the regime must pay bills for foreign aid services delivered before he issues his TRO.

The regime took the case to the Court of Appeals, which around 20:00 refused to intervene. The regime then turned to the Supreme Court for relief before a looming midnight deadline.

Chief Justice John Roberts granted the regime an administrative stay, lifting the deadline.

But today the full Court issued its ruling and upheld Ali. The government must pay at least part of its foreign aid obligations.
