Schools for Military Personnel’s Children Remove Civil Rights History

Department of Defense Education Activity, which supports 161 schools around the world for children of military service members, ordered school libraries to remove all books that relate to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Books about slavery, civil rights history, or treatment of Native Americans are among those being removed. Schools are already forbidden to host events involving cultural observances such as Black History Month. Anti-transgender changes include making any programs for boys or girls accessible only to those who were born that way.

School at Fort Campbell must remove all mention of the fort’s 101st Airborne Division protecting the Little Rock 9 during integration of public schools in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957.

At least one school in Europe removed all materials that portray immigration in a positive light.
