NY Governor Rejects LA Governor’s Extradition Order

New York Governor Kathy Hochul rejected Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s extradition warrant for a New York doctor who has been indicted in Louisiana for allegedly prescribing abortion pills online.

New York has a shield law to protect doctors in this situation. Louisiana has a near-total ban on abortion.

Hochul publicly announced she will not cooperate with any extradition order for Dr. Margaret Carpenter, and specified that certain out-of-state warrants are not enforceable in the state of New York.
