National Public Radio filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump’s executive order that strips it of Congressionally appropriated federal funding.

Excerpts from the lawsuit include:

The president has no authority under the Constitution to take such actions. On the contrary, the power of the purse is reserved to Congress.

and

It is not always obvious when the government has acted with a retaliatory purpose in violation of the First Amendment. ‘But this wolf comes as a wolf.’

Before issuing the executive order, Trump tried to fire members of the board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which both NPR and its television sister Public Broadcasting System operate. That action is now entangled in a separate federal lawsuit.
