Mexico’s President Sheinbaum Pushes to Outlaw Propaganda from Abroad

| 0

In response to commercials aired in Mexico by USA Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem against illegal immigration, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced she will push to make propaganda from abroad illegal.

On Monday, Sheinbaum will send to Congress her proposed reforms for telecommunications law. This may go beyond reinstating a section of its Federal Telecommunications Law that was repealed 11 years ago under President Enrique Peña Nieto. The reforms are expected to apply to both conventional and social media.

A partial description of the reforms read:

Broadcast and television licensees and permit holders in the country will not be allowed to transmit political, ideological, or commercial propaganda from foreign governments or entities, nor permit the media operating under their licenses to be used for purposes that could influence internal affairs.
