Leaked USA Intelligence Says Bombing Only Set Back Iran’s Nuclear Program a Few Months

A report by the Defence Intelligence Agency leaked, and contrary to claims by Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran’s nuclear facilities were obliterated, the report said Iran’s nuclear program was only set back by a few months by the USA’s attack.

The entrance to the deeply buried enrichment facilities at Fordo collapsed, but the facilities themselves are intact, although damaged. Restoring access to them and repairing them is estimated to require as little as three months. The report said intelligence assessments ahead of the attack warned this could be the result.

Iran moved most or all of its nuclear stockpile elsewhere ahead of the attack due to Trump’s chest-pounding on social media. This had already been reported but was confirmed.

Trump was enraged by the report and the fact that it leaked. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt repeated his insistence that the Iranian targets were completely destroyed.

Trump believed the attack would force Iran to abandon its nuclear program. Instead, Iran has been offered nuclear weapons by some other countries and has retained the capability to develop them itself if it chooses. Iran reached a negotiated agreement with the USA a few years ago in which it promised not to develop nuclear weapons, only to see it ripped up by Trump and find itself assaulted by Israel and the USA this month. Iran may now feel that it needs to possess nuclear weapons to be able to protect itself.
