Judge Sets Short Deadline for DJT to Release Frozen Foreign Aid Funds

| 0

Federal District Court Judge Amir Ali, frustrated by Donald Trump’s persistent non-compilance with his temporary restraining order, set a deadline of midnight tomorrow by which the State Department must release foreign aid funds Ali ordered unfrozen two weeks ago.

The State Department must also explain its weeks of defiance of his order to unfreeze foreign aid grants and contracts for work already completed when he issued his 13 February 2025 order, for millions of dollars. By noon tomorrow, the government must file with the court “any directive or guidance” issued about halting of aid agreements or about Ali’s order, and provide names of officials who know about disputes involving compliance with his order

Ali specifically pointed out Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s order to pause $15.9 billion in foreign assistance grants five days after the restraining order took effect.

For the second time, Ali did not exercise his power to order specific officials to appear in in court and did not hold anyone in contempt of court.

This was the first of three separate courtroom losses for the new regime in 90 minutes.
