Judge Orders Funding Restored for Legal Services for Immigrant Children

Federal District Court Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin issued a temporary restraining order to make Donald Trump’s regime restore funding for legal representation for unaccompanied immigrants who are children.

The funding was cut off and restored in February 2025, then cut off again 21 March.

Martinez-Olguin wrote, “Terminating funding for direct legal representation for unaccompanied children, without any plan to ensure continuity in representation, potentially violates Congress’s express directive in the TVRPA and [Office of Refugee Resettlement’s] own commitments in the Foundational Rule.”

The case was brought by Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto, and Immigrant Defenders Law Center against the federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement and Department of the Interior.
