Judge Blocks DJT’s Halt of Refugee Admission System

Federal District Court Judge Jamal Whitehead ruled that Donald Trump’s executive order suspending the refugee admission program illegally usurped power that belongs to Congress.

Whitehead said, “The president has substantial discretion … to suspend refugee admissions. But that authority is not limitless.” He also said Trump’s “actions amount to an effective nullification of congressional will in establishing the nation’s refugee admissions program.”

The Department of Justice says it will consider filing an emergency appeal.

On Friday there will be a hearing in a different federal District Court for a similar lawsuit by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

This was the third of three separate courtroom losses for the new regime in 90 minutes.
