Judge Bars DOGE from Sensitive Data at OPM and Department of Education

Federal District Court Judge Deborah Boardman issued a temporary restraining order to bar Elon Musk’s DOGE from access to sensitive information at the Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Education.

The Department of Government Efficiency is a subset of a White House IT team, not a government department,

Boardmen said, “The continuing, unauthorized disclosure of plaintiffs’ sensitive personal information to DOGE affiliates is irreparable harm that money damages cannot rectify.” The plaintiffs are federal labor unions, student loan recipients and military veterans who get government benefits.

Boardman’s ruling hinges on DOGE not showing the required “need-to-know” in order to access sensitive data about people.

She did not extend her ruling over information in the Department of the Treasury because another judge’s order blocks DOGE access there.
