International Development Minister Dodds Resigns over Slashed Foreign Aid

International Development Minister Anneliese Dodds resigned over Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s large reduction of the foreign aid budget.

She delayed her resignation announcement until after Starmer’s visit with USA President Donald Trump. In her resignation notice, she acknowledged needing to increase defense spending due to geopolitical instability. But she was disappointed that the increase came entirely by slashing international aid with no consideration of other possibilities such as “our fiscal rules and approach to taxation.”
