HHS Workers Offered $25,000 to Resign

| 0

All employees of the Department of Health and Human Services received email offering them $25,000 to resign.

HHS has about 80,000 employees. Agencies under HHS include but are not limited to the Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, Medicare and Medicaid. The decision deadline set by the email is 14 March 2025.

A similar offer has already been made at the Department of Education, and somehow up to $50,000 was offered for resignation at the Securities and Exchange Commission despite a legal cap of $25,000 on such buyouts.

Mass firings and mass buyout offers to federal employees are driven by Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” a subset of a White House IT team rather than a department.

Federal jobs cut in February came to 62,200. For the nation, the last time job losses were this high was July 2020, the height of losses due to onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
