Head of FEMA National Response Coordination Center Resigns

Two weeks into hurricane season, Jeremy Greenberg submitted his two week resignation notice from his position as head of the National Response Coordination Center for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA is the nation’s main disaster response agency. During major emergencies, the NRCC provides a round-the-clock operations hub to coordinate federal experts, military and non-profit involvement in disaster relief. It is involved in all aspects of disaster response.

Tony Robinson also announced his resignation. He has been the regional administrator for FEMA Region 6 which includes several Gulf states that are prone to emergencies such as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. His deputy Traci Brasher resigned last week.

FEMA has been hemorrhaging expertise as Donald Trump strives to force states to cope with disasters on their own. He has rejected requests for disaster assistance even from states such as North Carolina that voted heavily for him in 2024, is getting rid of FEMA staff and stripping FEMA of resources.
