Four More Democrats Try to See Abrego Garcia

Four more Congressional Democrats traveled to El Salvador and attempted to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and renditioned there.

The delegation from the House of Representatives consisted of Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ3), Maxine Dexter (D-OR3), Maxwell Frost (D-FL10) and Robert Garcia (D-CA42). They were unable to get a meeting with Abrego Garcia akin to the hour Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) achieved last week. Van Hollen’s meeting was the first confirmation that Abrego Garcia is still alive. Frost said the group has found no indication that Donald Trump’s regime is doing anything to comply with the Supreme Court’s order to facilitate return of Abrego Garcia to the USA.

The delegation used their own funds for the trip, having been denied official committee funds from Republican-led House committees. They said they and their colleagues are receiving hundreds of telephone calls about Abrego Garcia.

Several Republicans in the House as well as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have traveled to El Salvador and have been allowed in CECOT, where they have mostly taken photos or filmed videos for their public relations. Democrats from the House and Senate have all been denied entry to see conditions inside CECOT.
