Four Deputies of NYC Mayor Eric Adams Resign

| 0

Four deputies of New York City Mayor Eric Adams resigned after the federal Department of Justice requested dismissal of corruption charges against him, reserving the ability to refile charges.

The officials who resigned were:

  • Maria Torres Springer, First Deputy Mayor
  • Meera Joshi, Deputy Mayor for Operations
  • Anne Williams-Isom, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services
  • Chauncey Parker, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety

DOJ heavily pressured its prosecutors to obtain the dismissal request. Several resigned rather than file the request, some with scathing resignation letters.

Dismissal was not due to any weakness in the case. It was due to the mayor’s agreement to cooperate with the new federal regime’s roundups of immigrants for deportation.

Adams faces increasing pressure to resign, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul faces increasing pressure to somehow remove him from office if he does not resign.
