Former NJL Punter Chris Kluwe Fired from Coaching Job after Protesting MAGA at Council Meeting

Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was fired from his job coaching high school football after he was arrested for protesting against a MAGA plaque outside Huntington Beach Central Library.

Police charged him with a misdemeanor for disrupting an assembly. He was kept in police custody about four hours and is due in court in April about the charge.

The plaque honors the town library which is now 50 years old. It includes the phrase “Magical Alluring Galvanizing Adventurous” which makes the same acronym as Donald Trump’s slogan. Underneath, it says, “Through hope and change, our nation has built back better to the golden era of Making America Great Again,” the actual Trump slogan.

Kluwe spoke at the council meeting, saying what he believes MAGA promotes: censorship, book bans, cutting education funding, firing federal workers, racism and opposition to democracy.

Despite opposition voiced by several attendees at the 18 February 2025 council meeting, the council unanimously approved the design.
