Federal Prosecutors Withdraw from Case Against Rep. Andy Ogles

Without explanation, federal prosecutors were withdrawn from a fraud case against Republican Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles.

The case involves his campaign finance statements for his 2022 initial run for Congress. He reported lending $320,000 of personal funds to his campaign. Local NewsChannel 5 and a subsequent Congressional ethics investigation both found he did not have the resources to make such a loan.

In sworn testimony, his campaign treasurer speculated he may have done this to make his campaign look stronger. The Congressman later amended his filing to say his personal loan to the campaign was $20,000.

The case will now be handled by the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. This may signal plans to drop the case.
