Federal Prosecutor Yields to Pressure to Dismiss Charges Against Eric Adams

To protect the jobs of the rest of DOJ’s Public Integrity Section, federal career prosecutor Ed Sullivan agreed to request dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Major Eric Adams.

Sullivan is nearing retirement.

Earlier in the day, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove told the Department of Justice’s career public integrity prosecutors in a meeting on Friday that they had an hour to decide among themselves who would file the motion. Reportedly promotion was on offer for doing it and mass firing if no one did it. The approximately 30 prosecutors considered mass resignation.

Because charges have already been filed with the court, the DOJ can request dismissal, but whether or not to dismiss is up to the judge.
