Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal law enforcement arrested 538 people and detained 373, some of them citizens of which at least one is a military veteran and some are Native Americans.

The raids which carried out these arrests concentrated on sanctuary areas. They occurred in Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, Miami, Newark, New York City and Washington, DC. The White House press secretary said those detained were “illegal immigrant criminals” with ties to Venezuelan gangs, which was not true.

In a warrantless raid in Newark, NJ, ICE detained a Puerto Rican USA citizen who is a military veteran, refusing to accept his military documentation as legitimate.

Arizona State Senator Theresa Hatathlie whose district includes the Navajo said several Navajo were questioned or detained by ICE agents who refused to recognize Certificates of Indian Blood (CIBs) and state-issued ID as valid proof of citizenship.

Arrestees who did face criminal allegations included an alleged El Salvadorian gang member, a Jamaican accused of sexual exploitation of a minor and a Honduran convicted of drunk driving.
