FBI Agents File Two Lawsuits Against DOJ Targeting of Agents on Jan. 6 Investigations

| 0

The FBI Agents Association and anonymous FBI agents sued against the Department of Justice’s scrutiny of agents who were involved with investigation of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and other federal probes regarding Donald Trump.

The FBI Agents Association represents thousands of current and former agents.

The lawsuits are against the DOJ and its interim leader, Acting Attorney General James McHenry. The suits seek to block public naming of the agents facing special review.

Over 5000 current and former agents are on a list demanded by acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove of all who were ever involved at all in January 6 investigations.

Acting Attorney General James McHenry already ordered the firing of several prosecutors who were involved in January 6 investigations. Eight FBI executives plus the heads of several field offices were forced to resign or retire last week.

One of the lawsuits filed expresses concern that the list of agents on such investigations will be used to fire them or otherwise impose retribution on them for doing their jobs. The other lawsuit expresses concern that on social media some of the 1500+ people Donald Trump pardoned for their roles in the violent attack on the Capitol have posted on social media promotion violence against law enforcement agents.

Both groups filing suit worry that the list of agent names will be released publicly or leaked, making them targets for violence and abuse.
