DOGE Gets Into Export-Import Bank

Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” put two of its people into the Export-Import Bank.

EXIM is an independent agency of the executive branch which serves as the USA’s export credit agency. It helps USA companies get favorable interest rates worldwide. Last year it provided money to the Treasury above and beyond its operating costs. It is more or less self-funded by interest it charges at the discretion of Congressional appropriations. There is no good reason to send cost cutters or efficiency teams into it.

Donald Park and Nate Cavanaugh took offices on the Executive floor. Park is listed as Senior Advisor and Cavanaugh is listed as Auditor. Cavanaugh was “in charge” of gutting and taking the assets of the U.S. Institute of Peace. The two report to David Slade, a Donald Trump loyalist who worked at EXIM during Trump’s first term and is now the agency’s White House liaison.
