DJT Suspends New International Visas for Harvard and Orders Reconsideration of Existing Visas

After a judge blocked from denying Harvard’s certification to host international students, Donald Trump signed a proclamation to get rid of the students by suspending new student visa and directing the Secretary of State “to consider revoking” existing visa for the university’s international students.

Trump’s proclamation “exempts aliens whose entry is deemed in the national interest.” It applies only to international students attending Harvard University, not other universities in the USA, through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. It is set to last six months but can be extended.

Normally, Presidential proclamations are issued for such purposes as recognizing a holiday. They do not carry the legal weight of an executive order.
