DJT Sanctions Against ICC Challenged in Court

| 0

Two human rights advocacy groups filed a lawsuit challenging sanctions imposed against the International Criminal Court by one of Donald Trump’s executive orders.

The groups said the sanctions made them stop engaging with the ICC’s chief prosecutor Karim Khan and the prosecutor’s staff due to fear of being fined and prosecuted by the USA. Trump’s order bans provision of services or material support to him by USA citizens, permanent residents and companies.

The lawsuit asserts that Trump violated the groups’ Constitutional right to share information with ICC.

The ICC investigates and prosecutes people who are accused of committing atrocities. Trump issued sanctions against Khan after the ICC approved arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant. The warrants involve alleged atrocities by Israel in Gaza.
