DJT Pardons Former Sheriff for Bribery and Fraud Charges

| 0

Donald Trump issued a pardon for former Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins in Virginia, who was sentenced in December to 10 years in federal prison for bribery, conspiracy and honest services fraud.

Jenkins was convicted of taking more than $75,000 in bribes in return for deputizing Northern Virginia businessmen as auxiliary sheriffs. The businessmen reportedly wanted that status to avoid traffic tickets and to carry concealed firearms without a permit. They were not vetted or trained, and they did not carry out law enforcement activities.

Jenkins was one of eight sheriffs who held the position of “fellows” at a far-right think tank, the Claremont Institute. Some former Trump officials are members of the Institute. In April, Jenkins said if he could just talk with someone in Trump’s regime, that would help. In May, Trump gave him a pardon.

Trump called him a wonderful person and said his conviction was persecution.
