DJT Freezes Wind Power Leasing on Outer Continental Shelf
Donald Trump signed an executive order blocking new or renewed offshore wind leasing on the entire USA outer continental shelf.
This order does not affect existing leases or oil and gas leases on the continental shelf.
Trump has repeatedly claimed offshore wind turbines kill whales and birds. Such turbines are associated with an increased death rate for birds, but there is no evidence of such an association for whales.
The order directs the Departments of Interior (as lead agency), Energy, Agriculture and Commerce to review environmental impacts of offshore wind leasing.
