DJT Fires Sajet, Head of National Portrait Gallery

Donald Trump fired Kim Sajet, who has been the head of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery for 12 years and is the first woman to do so.

Sajet previously served as President and CEO of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Vice President and Deputy Director of Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Director of Corporate Relations at Philadelphia Museum of Art.

When asked for comment about this firing, a White House spokesperson gave a list of articles that supposedly show Sajet is connected with Democrats and progressivism.

The National Portrait Gallery was established by Congress in 1962. It is part of the Smithsonian Institution, for which 62% of funding is federal and the rest is from other sources. Whether Trump has authority to fire its head is not clear.
