DJT Fires Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q. Brown Jr.

Donald Trump fired Air Force General Charles Q. Brown from his role as Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the midst of his appointment term.

Brown was the second-ever Black person to serve in this role. The  Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the most senior military officer in the USA. This role is the primary military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and Homeland Security Council.

Newly appointed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has raged for months against Brown holding the position, implying he got the appointment on diversity, equity and inclusion grounds rather than expertise.

Trump wants to replace Brown with retired Air Force Lieutenant General John Dan “Razin” Caine. He has none of the traditional qualifications for the role and must end his retirement to be nominated, and will require a legal exemption to be confirmed. When Trump and Caine met in 2018, Caine is reported to have said, “I love you, sir. I think you’re great, sir. I’ll kill for you, sir.” Trump claimed Caine then donned a Make America Great Again hat in contravention of military rules against political messaging on active duty military personnel’s clothes.

This is understood to be the beginning of a purge of high ranking military officers whose loyalty to Trump is not above all other loyalties.
