DJT Fake Elector Scheme Architect Chesebro Disbarred

Kenneth Chesebro, a former lawyer for Donald Trump who helped architect the fake elector scheme to subvert the 2020 Presidential election results, was disbarred in New York.

Chesebro’s license to practice law was suspended in New York in autumn 2024. A panel of judges in the Appellate Division, which is New York’s midlevel appeals court, has now permanently revoked his license.

The panel cited multiple reasons. In 2023 he pleaded guilty in Georgia to one felony charge of conspiracy to file false documents, which he has tried unsuccessfully to take back. But that was only one part of the scheme he helped devise to establish slates of people to claim falsely that they were the electors for their state and submit electoral votes for Trump where former President Joe Biden actually won.

Seven felony counts were charged against him, including a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charge against all participants the legal system sought to judge for the scheme. His role was mainly organizing the overall scheme.

States where the scheme tried to subvert electoral votes were Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Nevada and Wisconsin. Several of those states have pursued criminal cases over the scheme.

Chesebro is far from the only Trump lawyer to face disciplinary action, disbarment and/or charges for involvement in the scheme.

The appellate panel wrote that Chesebro’s actions undercut “the very notion of our constitutional democracy that he, as an attorney, swore an oath to uphold.”

“Given the testimony and evidence produced at the hearing, we conclude that respondent should be disbarred based on his conviction of a serious crime.”
