DJT Exempts USA Automakers from Tariffs on Imports from Canada and Mexico until 2 April

After meeting with the “Big Three” USA automakers, Donald Trump granted a reprieve to USA car manufacturers from 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico until 2 April 2025.

In automaking it is common for materials to go through some manufacturing processes, then go to Canada and/or Mexico for further processing, then return to the USA for assembly.

Trump had previously insisted he would not grant exemptions.

He also spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who refused to lift Canada’s retaliatory tariffs.
