DJT Asks Supreme Court to Let Him Strip Venezuelans of Temporary Protected Status

| 0

Department of Justice Solicitor General John Sauer filed a request for expedited appeal with the Supreme Court, asking it to allow Donald Trump to strip or cut back temporary protected status from Venezuelan immigrants.

TPS allows work permits for immigrants who have it and shields them from deportation.

In March, federal District Court Judge Edward Chen blocked Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem from stripping some Venezuelan TPS holders of their status and chopping an extension of the status which was granted by President Biden’s administration. Subsequently, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the DOJ’s request to suspend his temporary ruling while the full case proceeds.

Unwilling to wait, the DOJ has asked the Supreme Court on an emergency basis to lift Chen’s temporary order so it can terminate TPS that is not expiring for Venezuelans and deport them while their legal challenges are still in progress.
