Coalition Sues Against Gutting of Institute of Museum and Library Services
The American Library Association and American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees jointly filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump’s executive order gutting the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
ALA is the world’s largest library association. AFSCME is the nation’s largest labor union for library and museum workers. IMLS is a non-partisan independent agency created by Congress in 1996 with bipartisan backing to support libraries, museums and community services they provide across the USA. It has statutory duties to support libraries and museums, and to report to Congress.
Trump ordered IMLS gutted in an executive order he signed 14 March 2025. The lawsuit seeks to block that.
