Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Elon Musk and Others for DOGE Actions

| 0

A class action lawsuit was filed against Elon Musk, Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Department of the Treasury and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on behalf of USA taxpayers, federal employees, and citizens who receive benefits from the federal government.

The suit asserts that the class of plaintiffs must be compensated for “massive and unprecedented” intrusion by Musk’s “Department” of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a subset of a White House IT team that is not a government department, into their sensitive personal data and private lives.

The suit charges that defendants granted Musk and DOGE access sensitive personal and financial data held in federal databases without requisite clearance, notice, “need to know” or assurance that the data will be protected in accordance with federal law. The suit cites the Privacy Act of 1974, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the IRS code (with respect to taxpayer information) as laws and regulations that have been violated.

The proposed class could include tens or hundreds of millions of American taxpayers if it is certified.

The case is Gribbon, et al. v. Elon Musk, et al., Case No. 1:25-cv-00422, in federal District Court for the District of Columbia.
