On 25 June 2025, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adopted two recommendations made in April by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices, a panel of vaccine experts Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fired shortly before its next working meeting.

For respiratory syncytial virus, vaccination is advised for adults aged between 50 and 59 years who have increased risk of severe illness from the RSV virus. Previously, this vaccine was recommended for adults aged 75 and above, and adults aged 60 to 74 with increased risk of severe illness.

For meningococcal disease, vaccination is recommended with GSK’s pentavalent vaccine in healthy people aged 16 to 23, and at-risk individuals aged 10 and above.

Kennedy accepted the recommendations himself because the agency has no Director to accept them. Nominee Susan Monarez has not been confirmed by the Senate.
