Arkansas Governor Sanders Begs DJT to Reverse His Refusal of Disaster Declaration

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who served as White House Press Secretary during Donald Trump’s first term in office, sent a letter begging him to reverse his denial of her request for federal disaster relief.

The state has been hammered by tornadoes on two successive days in mid-March and then again recently. Trump refuses to issue a disaster declaration, which would enable various forms of federal help. Sanders’ request for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was also denied.

During Trump’s first term, he tended to withhold or impose conditions on disaster relief for states that had not voted for him. Arkansas did vote for him and is led by someone who was once in his inner circle.

Project 2025 calls for FEMA to be gutted, a task which is well underway.
