Altman Rebuffs Musk Attempt to Buy OpenAI

After a consortium led by Elon Musk proposed to buy OpenAI for $100 billion, Sam Altman rejected the offer, adding that OpenAI could buy X (formerly Twitter) for $9.74 billion instead.

Musk was infuriated. He paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter.

Musk helped to found OpenAI in 2015 as a non-profit. Altman has been making it more commercial. Musk left the OpenAI board in 2018 and has been trying to build an AI engine of his own through X.
