Interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba announced that misdemeanor charges of trespassing against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka were dropped.

Habba posted on social media, “After extensive consideration, we have agreed to dismiss Mayor Baraka’s misdemeanor charge of trespass for the sake of moving forward.”

Baraka was arrested outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility at Delaney Hall. He and three Congressional Representatives hoped to inspect the facility. He was briefly allowed onto a parking lot inside the gate, then told to step outside the gate, which he did. After a pause, agents dragged him inside the gate and handcuffed him, which became chaotic as protesters tried to protect him.
