AFGE Sues to Block DJT Schedule F Executive Order

| 0

The American Federation of Government Employees sued the Trump regime to block his executive order that seeks to reclassify large numbers of non-political civil servants to a new Schedule F category subject to being fired at will rather than only for cause.

The executive order titled “Restoring Accountability to Policy-Influencing Positions Within the Federal Workforce” seeks to strip civil service job protections from career federal jobs that are associated with setting federal policies. Reclassification into a new less protected job category (Schedule F) would convert policy-related work from non-partisan merit-based jobs to political patronage for loyalists. The union asserts this is unlawful and undermines the civil service’s focus on apolitical merit.

The lawsuit in the District Court for the District of Columbia states that the EO wrongly shifts employment rules for political appointees onto career staff; takes away due process rights that civil servants were promised in their hiring; and violates Office of Personnel Management regulations.

This case is related to National Treasury Employees Union versus Trump in the same district court.
