DJT Withdraws Nomination of Elise Stefanik for Ambassador to the UN

Donald Trump withdrew his nomination of Congressional Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) for Ambassador to the United Nations ambassador due to concern about the narrow Republican majority.

Trump said “With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat.” Stefanik was re-elected by 24 points in November. Republicans feared that margin was no longer enough to hold the district.

Stefanik had not yet resigned from her seat in the House. The Senate was expected to confirm her nomination.
