Thousands Fired from Department of Agriculture

Mass firings hit thousands of probationary federal employees in the Department of Agriculture.

The Department of Agriculture lost:

About 1000 from the National Park Service, which had to withdraw from the public bookings of various Park Service facilities
About 1200 from the Natural Resources Conservation Service
loan analysts at Farm Service Agency field offices
About 25% of the 14 staff at the National Animal Health Laboratory Network program office, which coordinates veterinary labs nationwide to perform the same tests and use similar methods to track animal disease outbreaks such as avian influenza in farm stock
