Timeline Started

Main audience: anyone

A few people expressed interest in having a timeline as I suggested earlier this month. A couple of people sent information to make sure I knew about some items I should consider to add to the timeline. (I put them in.)

When the onslaught hits this coming week, I may find this new obligation bigger than I can handle. But I’ve bought a better engine for it and started populating it. We’ll see how it goes. A new tab in the main menu on this website will take you to it.

What I aim for with this timeline is not to put all headline news into it. That is beyond what I can do. It could only be done by writing software to at least semi-automate the work. I am not ready to do it on that scale when I’m not sure yet how useful we will find it.

I hope this will provide a way for us to get a visual sense of how big stuff is coming through. Already I can see that there are waves, days that are more packed than most. There are other patterns we know happen due to past analysis, but we sometimes can’t perceive the patterns until much later. For example, we know the incoming regime in the USA has a habit of doing something especially crazy and maddening to distract attention from something else that is more important. I’m not sure we will be able to see that more clearly in a visual timeline, but maybe we will.

So far it’s heavily USA oriented. I hope to add items for the UK too, and the biggest news in other areas such as international, health and science. The timeline has category filters to help us narrow the portion of it that we see at one time. By default, when you first bring up the page it will show all its contents.

Side Note

A while ago I said to clean up your online presence if you are concerned about the new regime using it against you. A few people have decided that includes dropping subscriptions and deleting online accounts, including in Substack where I now publish most of my content. Although I’m sad to lose subscribers, I understand and don’t take it personally.

While setting up the timeline, I retroactively set up blog posts here that lead to nearly all my Substack posts since the USA election. (The blog had been dormant since I started writing in Substack.) This means there are now three places where I will put an entry that announces and points to each of my Substack posts: BlueSky, LinkedIn and my personal blog. As you know, I stopped doing that in X/Twitter and Facebook due to their new policies of taking content to feed their AI engines. If LinkedIn does that too, I will stop posting links to my Substack there.

If you subscribed to get email notices of my blog updates years ago and are still on that list, I apologize for the flood of emails you got as I set up retroactive entries there. It will calm down now and only email you when I put in new posts.

Thank you for reading here. I truly appreciate it.
