Wife of Active Duty Coast Guard Member Arrested by Immigration Officials at On-Base Housing

The wife of a Coast Guard member on active duty was arrested by federal immigration agents at on-base housing in Key West, Florida, the day after the couple went to the visitor control center to get an access pass for her as they moved in.

Her work visa expired about 8 years ago. A few years later she was flagged for deportation. She and the Coast Guards member married this year. Routine security screening at the visitor control center flagged her name.

The base contacted Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which along with Coast Guard security went to the Coast Guards member’s home on base. They were joined there by agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement who arrested her.

Her name and country of origin were not released. Her husband is assigned to the USCGC Mohawk, a 270-foot-long cutter operating out of Key West.
