Phyllis Fong, Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was escorted out of her office after refusing to comply with Donald Trump’s 25 January mass firing of IGs without legally required notice to Congress.

USDA’s remit includes consumer food safety, audits and investigations of the agriculture department, and violations of animal welfare laws. The agency’s investigation of Elon Musk’s brain implant startup Neuralink started in 2022 and is ongoing.
