To comply with an executive order by Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Agriculture disbanded two advisory committees for food safety.

The terminated groups of experts are:

National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) which, according to its website, “provides impartial scientific advice and recommendations to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other government agencies on microbiological and public health issues relative to the safety of the U.S. food supply.” It was working on guidance to address increasing occurrence of deadly foodborne illnesses.

National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) provided advice about federal and state food inspections, use of inspection technology, compliance with food safety regulations, and communication with “underserved communities.”
