USAID Workers Locked Out as Musk Says He Is Shutting Down Agency
Musk says he is shutting down US Agency for International Development. He claims Donald Trump agrees.
At least 600 USAID employees were locked out of their computer accounts overnight. This morning those who still had email access were told to stay out of their headquarters.
In fiscal year 2023, the USA provided $68 billion in foreign aid, of which USAID administered 62%. Programs include nutrition for severely malnourished children, health, disaster relieve pro-democracy initiatives around the world.
Before the lockout, Donald Trump put two top USAID security officials on leave after they tried to prevent Musk’s team from accessing classified materials for which they do not have clearance. After the officials were out, Musk’s team got access. Among other things, this compromised some USA intelligence information.
